KAROL KEYES - ONE IN A MILLION (1966)



Born Carol Hirsch in Bethnal Green. This was her second single, a take on Maxine Brown's "One in A Million", produced and arranged by Ray Davis of The Kinks. She would later change her name to Luan Peters and concentrate on acting. She was the Australian girl in the Fawlty Towers Episode "The Psychiatrist".

BEVERLY JONES - WAIT TILL MY BOBBY GETS HOME (1963)


This Coventry girls version of the Darlene love song was her second single for HMV


BEVERLY - WHERE THE GOOD TIMES ARE (1966)

Born Beverley Kutner, near Coventry. This is the B-Side to her 1966 single Happy New Year. The session band include Jimmy Page and John Paul-Jones.   



BERYL MARSDEN - GONNA MAKE HIM MY BABY (1965)


Born Beryl Hogg in the Toxteth area of Liverpool. At the age of 14 she won a local talent competition and was invited to join local band The Undertakers, but was too young to travel with them to Hamburg. Instead she started singing with Howie Casey and the Crew, often performing at the Cavern. She has recorded a number of powerful and soulful but unsuccessful records, and has been described as "undeservedly neglected".
This is the B-Side of her 1965 single "Who You Gonna Hurt".


BARRY ST. JOHN - EVERYTHING I TOUCH TURNS TO TEARS (1966)


Scottish singer's 1966 single, largely ignored by the record-buying public, she had to wait a decade before it became sought after by Northern soul fans. 


BARBARA RUSKIN - SONG WITHOUT END (1966)


Barbara Ruskin from East Ham, is remembered by few these days, but back in 60s Britain, she was one of only a handful of female singer-songwriters. She released a number of great singles between 1965 and 1972.
 With Motown all the rage in 1966 she came up with this stomping single, however the song failed to hit. 


ANTOINETTE - JENNY LET HIM GO (1964)


Born Marie Antoinette Daly in Southend. She recorded half a dozen singles, none of which were hits. This was her first single for DECCA in 1964. 

ADRIENNE POSTA - SHANG A DOO LANG (1964)


Adrienne Marsha Poster born 4 March 1949, is a film and TV actress and singer, prominent during the 1960s and 1970s. She adopted the surname Posta in 1966.
She appeared in a number of films, including "To Sir With Love" and "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush".Posta also recorded a number of singles.
She is now semi-retired and works as a teacher in the Midlands.
This song was written by Jagger and Richards and recorded by The Rolling Stones in 1963 but never released.

TRULY SMITH - THE BOY FROM CHELSEA (1967)


Josie Taylor hailed from the Dallam area of Warrington, in 1966 at the age of 16, she auditioned for Noel Walker an A & R man for DECCA Records. She was offered a contract and picked a new name for herself Truly Smith.
This is her final release for DECCA, a little-known tune from the pens of Gerry Goffin and Carole King. She went on to become a teacher and, until recently was headmistress of a school in Northumberland.


TAWNY REED - I GOT A FEELING (1965)


Welsh Singer Tawny Reed released two singles on the PYE label. This is the B-Side of  the first which was a cover of The Velvelettes Motown classic "Needle In A Haystack". Released in the US on the RED BIRD label, arguably the home of the girl group sound. She was the only Brit Girl to receive the distinction of having a release on the legendary New York label.

Lorraine Silver



Lorraine Silver's singing career began in 1965 when she recorded an a cappella version of "Sealed With A Kiss" at a DIY singing booth in Woolworths in Oxford Street. The song attracted the attention of PYE Records who signed her for a two-record deal. Her first single was a version of Shelley Fabares "Lost Summer Love" . Although this never charted it would go on to become massively popular at The Wigan Casino on Northern Soul nights in the1970s . The Single was reissued on the Casino Classics label , selling in excess of 30,000 copies. Silver however , remained unaware of the song's popularity and her fame within the Northern Soul scene until 2003.


 

Her second single was an original song "The Happy Faces" with a cover of The Supremes "When The Love Light Starts Shining Thru His Eyes"on the B-Side. Neither single sold well at the time and silver's contract was not renewed.



Jenny Wren - Chasing My Dreams All Over Town (1966)



Jenny Allen from Wolverhampton changed her name to Jenny Wren and released two records on Fontana this one in 1966.
